What it is
Age Calculator is a free online utility at agecalculatorkit.com that calculates your exact age in years, months and days from your date of birth and a reference date. It also shows total months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds lived, plus your next birthday countdown, zodiac sign and the weekday you were born. Two companion tools cover related needs: Birthday Calculator (focused countdown) and Date Difference Calculator (any two dates).
All calculations run locally in your browser — dates never touch a server for the core flow (see privacy policy). There is no login, paywall or data resale.
Who builds it
Age Calculator is an independent project maintained by a small team passionate about web performance, accessibility and correct date math. We are not a government agency, financial institution or medical provider — we build a focused calculator and document its method transparently so you can verify it. Editorial decisions, code and content are reviewed by the site owner before publishing. Why it was created
Many calculators approximate age by dividing total days by 365 or 365.25. That’s quick but wrong for calendar use: it treats every month as ~30.4 days and every year as the same length. We built this one to be calendar-accurate: real month lengths, correct leap-year handling, February 29 logic and month-end borrowing — while staying extremely simple to use. The method is documented step-by-step on how age is calculated with examples.
How we ensure accuracy
- Years → months → days borrowing with correct days per month from
daysInMonth(year, month) - Gregorian leap-year rule: divisible by 4, not by 100 unless also by 400 (
year%4===0 && year%100!==0 || year%400===0) - February 29 treated as February 28 in non-leap years for countdown stability
- UTC midnight math to avoid timezone/DST drift (elapsed days via
Date.UTC) - Shared utility
src/utils/age.tsused by all three calculators — fix once, correct everywhere - Validated against known edge cases: 31 Jan → 28 Feb, Feb 29 spans, year-boundary and
calculateCalendarAgenull-guards when reference is before birth
Still, results depend on dates you enter and are for general information (see disclaimer). For legal or official age thresholds, verify with authoritative records.
Editorial & update process
- Original content: all explanations, examples and FAQs are written for this site; we don’t scrape or copy.
- Fact-checking: formulas are cross-checked with the live code in
src/utils/age.tsand manual calendar tests. - Update cadence: calculators are re-tested on each build; content pages reviewed at least quarterly. Last content review: August 2026.
- Corrections: found an error? Email hello@agecalculatorkit.com or vipulotari1718@gmail.com with URL and dates — we prioritize calendar bugs.
Focus on simplicity
No sign-up, no clutter. Enter two dates, press Calculate Age, see results instantly with large touch targets and summary cards. The reference date defaults to today without hard-coding; URL parameters let you share a result without storing it. It works with keyboard, mouse and touch.
Focus on accessibility & performance
Semantic HTML, proper <label> and fieldset/legend, visible focus rings, keyboard support, good color contrast, logical H1 → H2 hierarchy and reduced-motion respect throughout. The layout is mobile-first (tested at 320/360/375/390/414px) and never overflows on small screens.
Static Astro output with Tailwind CSS v4, minimal JavaScript, no backend for calculations, long-cache for /_astro/* via _headers. The page feels instant even on slower connections, which helps Core Web Vitals (LCP, CLS, INP).
Privacy-conscious & ad-aware
Dates are processed locally in your browser and saved only as localStorage (agecalc:*) or URL params if you share them. We use Google Analytics 4 (G-QFP5JZ8LMC) and Google Fonts — disclosed in the privacy policy with cookie details and opt-out — and reserve stable ad slots to avoid layout shift if Google AdSense is approved. Ads will never sit inside buttons or mimic results, per Publisher Policies.
Trust & transparency
- Real contact: hello@agecalculatorkit.com & vipulotari1718@gmail.com on every legal page footer and contact.
- Clear privacy policy, terms and disclaimer based on actual implementation.
- Open-ish approach: you can inspect calculation logic in DevTools (sources) because it ships as readable client JavaScript.
